I hope you have some really cool stuff planned for 2019?
If you're anything like me, you probably have a whole lot you'd love to do! The problem is prioritizing, focusing and finishing it all!
Well guess what? I've got a few tips that have helped me (and thousands of others I've worked with). The fact is, most successful people have lots of great ideas and ambition. But if they don't learn to hone in on what's most important to them and stay focused, they don't end up finishing the things they dreamed of. And that's right - they don't end up successful or happy.
It's good to dream and brainstorm lots of ideas. Probably only 20% of those dreams is worth going after. But if we don't dream to begin with, then we won't challenge and stretch to big enough things.
Keep a notepad with all of your ideas. In my GRITty Stuff planner, I keep all my ideas in the journal section in the back. That way I keep track of them, I can add ideas, and when it's time for one to come to life, it gets put into the planner section. Once it's in the planner section, it has moved from a dream to a goal.
Now it needs to become a priority.
Looking ahead at my year, I consider all that needs to happen to make this goal a reality. I pencil in the projects in the months ahead. Each month I reflect, and then I look ahead and adjust if necessary. Each week, I prioritize and plan specific tasks and time for this goal. This helps me stay focused.
I'm more of a morning person, so with my cup of java, I take a look at my goals and my vision board, then I review my HVAs (high value activities), and what I planned for that week. Any adjustments are made, and then I get at it. The secret is to always prioritize the top 1 to 3 things that I will finish that day. Anything else is a bonus!
Having a planner to actually write in has been a game changer for me. It has enabled me to finish the most important things.
I went electronic for quite a while. That's great for scheduling and keeping me on track each day. But I was missing out on some good dreaming and planning. There's really something to physically writing things down. I think it imprints in your mind, and then your subconscious is also working with you to make it happen.
Each person has to find their own method. I'd love to hear if there's some tidbit here that you think could help you focus and finish. And/or maybe you have an idea to share that you could leave in the comments below?
xoxoxo My best wishes for you to focus and finish in 2019!📷
PS - Do you have your GRITty Stuff Planner yet? I use mine to dream big, plan and stay focused. Then I use my electronic calendar to schedule it. Since I've gone back to a planner, it has made a huge difference in my ability to get the most important things done, rather than reacting to anything and everything! Try it out for yourself.
