The Joy of Giving

Updated: Oct 4, 2019

We often forget about the joy of giving. Instead, we’re running around worried about picking the perfect gift, or the money we’re spending, or the stress of shopping. Just think, when you’re happy and joyful in your gift giving, you’re wrapping that gift with positive energy, rather than the negative energy when you’re worried or stressed. That energy is passed on. And, you’re giving yourself the gift of happiness (which is much better than giving yourself stress, which leads to poor health and many other negative repercussions).

As you’re out and about shopping, or making your purchases online this week, be mindful of your thoughts and feelings. If you find yourself worrying or stressed, take these 5 simple steps:

  1. Take a moment to feel the worry or stress; don’t resist it

  2. Figure out the thought behind it (hint – it’s usually a fear)

  3. Dismiss it – let it flow right on out or combat it with a mantra

  4. Take a nice deep cleansing breath and smile

  5. Choose a positive thought - one that will lead to joy

Happiness and joy do not always come naturally. Sometimes we have to take a more active role and manage our thoughts, by choosing more positive thoughts. Whatever the activity – delegating a task to someone who works for you, lending a helping hand with some chores, cleaning up your workspace, writing out thank you or holiday cards – be mindful of the energy you’re putting into it. Do it with love, and pass on positive energy.

Giving should be an act of love and gratitude, not of worry, resentfulness or stress. Give yourself the greatest gift ever – give yourself the right to choose your own thoughts and feel the joy!

Cheers,
