Top 5 Tips to Make a Change Stick

Updated: Oct 4, 2019

As I was trying to squeeze into my favorite jeans the other day, I realized I had gained a few pounds. It took me by surprise and I started thinking about why weight seems to creep up so quickly. It can feel like it takes so long to accomplish something, but so quick to fall back to where you started.

“The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new.” - Socrates

So here are my top 5 tips to help you stay on track when you’re trying to make a change:

  1. Start by being realistic. Most things take time - and some slippage before we make it stick. If you fall of the horse, get right back on and keep going.

  2. Realize it might take changing your thoughts and beliefs around it first. I always knew it was important to eat healthy but watching my father die of cancer made me wake up. I decided once and for all to eat differently. It’s not a diet, it’s a lifestyle.

  3. Focus on adding positive things in, rather than taking things away. I added a smoothie every day at first. Then one healthy raw food dish. Then a green juice. Soon there wasn’t any room for all the old junk.

  4. Keep visualizing the new and don’t dwell on the old. See yourself as the new image; the person who is already there.

  5. Be kind to yourself, this is a journey, and remember to have fun with it!

Whatever change you’re looking to make, be it striving for a financial goal, developing yourself into the best leader you can be, or just being more positive – follow these tips and you’re sure to make progress.

Cheers,
